Day 6: Foggy Cliffs and a Swanky Hotel

We left our little home in County Kerry and headed northwest to see the Cliffs of Moher. So many people had recommended going there, so we figured we must. We parked our car in the overpriced lot and followed the crowd of tourists to the cliffs, only to find them almost completely covered with fog. If we squinted our eyes tightly, we could get an idea of what they might look like on a clear day. They were beautiful...at least as far as we could tell.

This night of the trip was the only night that we had no accommodations reserved. We were heading in the direction of Northern Ireland, so we figured we'd stop somewhere halfway...which ended up being Athlone. At this point, we were tired, and Zach was ready to be done driving for the day. So, he said we would stay at the first place he found a parking space...The Sheraton Hotel. It was very posh, luxurious, and over-priced, but boy was I excited! I sure do love a little pampering, especially when it's my husband's idea! When we got to our room, our television screen said, "Welcome, Zachary". We were very impressed by that.

With a room that nice, we didn't do any sight-seeing, unless sweet dreams count :)

Oh, here are some comical road signs we spotted on our way to Athlone. Zach thought one of them looked like a car floating up to heaven.

  1. oh! i am so sad you didn't get to see the cliffs of moher! they are breath-taking. I am loving reading your tales only I am just now getting caught up. So glad you loved your time in Ireland. It's one of my favorite countries in the world.
